The coronavirus has officially been declared a pandemic by the World Health Organization and the number of cases in Texas is rising steadily. We know that for most individuals, it is a stressful and scary time, and it is important to slow the spread of this disease as much as possible. We also know that for many couples who are trying to conceive, time is of the essence, and delaying treatment can decrease your chances of success. At SIRM Dallas, the safety of our patients and our community are our priority, so we’ve compiled some tips on how to keep yourself safe during this stressful time, as well as how we’re making sure to keep patients like you safe at our clinic.

Ways to Protect Yourself

The ways you can keep yourself safe during this time are relatively similar to how you would protect yourself from the seasonal flu. The following recommendations come from the CDC and Department of Health as ways to help prevent contracting COVID-19 (Coronavirus):

  1. Whatever You Do, Wash Your Hands Frequently!

Wash your hands with soap and water often, especially whenever you’ve been out in public, for at least 20 seconds. The CDC has tutorials on proper handwashing technique that can be found here. If you can’t wash your hands with soap and water, use hand sanitizer until you are able to wash your hands.

  1. Avoid Touching Your Face

Make sure not to touch your face unless you have just washed your hands. We know it takes a lot of conscious effort to keep from touching your face, but try to keep from doing it as much as possible.

  1. Practice Social Distancing

Try to avoid spending anymore time in public than absolutely necessary. If possible, work from home so as not to come in to your workplace. If you need to exercise, do so at home or on a solo run outside. If you want to spend time with friends, video chat with them via skype, zoom, or whatsapp.

How SIRM Dallas is Keeping Patients Safe

Our number one priority is our patients’ safety, but we understand that patients still need to continue on their fertility journey. To make it as safe as possible, SIRM Dallas is:

  1. Using Virtual Appointments for Consultations

All patient consultations, new patients and current, will take place via telephone or Skype. If you have an appointment scheduled and have any questions, contact us at 972-566-6686 today and we will be happy to assist you.

  1. Cancelling all elective surgeries, non-urgent diagnostic testing, and cycle starts

Per the recommendation of ASRM, we are temporarily suspending the initiation of new treatment cycles and any IVF cycle starts beginning in April. We all also postpoting all elective surgeries and diagnostic procedures like semen analyses, HSGs, and SISs. Patients who are currently undergoing IVF cycles for the month of March can proceed with their treatment, as well as patients who require urgent stimulation and freezing of eggs/embryos due to a cancer diagnosis.

  1. Screening For Symptoms

We are making sure to screen patients for symptoms by phone before they come into the office, as well as when they arrive. If you are experiencing flu-like symptoms, we ask that you call our office to reschedule. We are also ensuring that any employees who are exhibiting concerning symptoms not come into work.

  1. Minimizing People in the Clinic

In order to minimize in person exposure, patients are no longer to bring visitors to their appointment. We ask that only the individual undergoing treatment enter the clinic.

  1. Cleaning Frequently

We are making sure to clean common areas in the clinic several times each day and wiping down exam rooms thoroughly after each patient to minimize your risk. We are also making hand sanitizer available at check in for patient use.
